The Market Square

The Market Square – the “Marktplatz” (The Tourist Office is situated here and this where the sightseeing round tour begins.)

The Old and the New Town were originally divided by the “Damm” (the “Dyke”). In the late 17th century, this area, now encircled by buildings, became the Market Square. A memorial stone commemorates the covering over of the “Küchenbach” - a free flowing stream - in 1905. The baroque fountain (18th century) shows the coats of arms of both the town and of Ysenburg.
