The legend about the emblem of the Ysenburger

The emblem of the sovereign to Ysenburg and Büdingen consists of two black bars on a white alternatively silver background. The history of the emblem came up in the time of Barbarossa: At a winterly time, Emperor Barbarossa was in the Büdinger forest with his shoot as he was separated from them. Lost he strayed through the forest until he meet a charburner at a rivulet. Emperor Barbarossa asked him the way. With his coal blackened fingers he drew him the way out of the forest into the snow – two black bars on a white background.

Emperor Barbarossa found the way back to his palace in Gelnhausen. Of thankfulness for the help he gave the Büdinger forest to the charburner and knighted him. The black bars on white background became the emblem of the family.

Even if this is only a story: It’s a fact that the Büdinger were markedly loyal followers of the Staufer.
