Wetterau

The Wetterau, situated between the ups of the Taunus at the west and the Vogelsberg at the north east, belongs to the most important cultivated landscapes of Germany and is populated since millennia from people. This was especially favoured by markedly mild clime, particularly rank grounds and a well branched stream network.
Many archaeological finds, especially of the Celts, the Romans and the Middle Ages testify to a settlement far back into the past. Middle of the 1990ies archaeologists uncovered three graves of Celts at the Glauberg and the life-sized statue of a "Keltenfürsten" – a sensation, which made the Glauberg to the centre of resarch of celtic settlement in Hesse. The Limes which belongs to the world cultural heritage runs through the Wetterau in a distinctive bulge. Many castle locations of the Romans could be detected here (Saalburg).

The Middle Ages left many building witnesses, for example Burg Münzeburg and the Ronneburg as fortification of the imperial-fortified Wetterau.
